WHY: The Derry Township Environmental Education Retreat is an outdoor education program for sixth graders here at Hershey Middle School. DEER is seeking parents who are willing to volunteer 2½ days of their busy lives to chaperone our program at Camp Kenbrook.
WHO: We need parents who are comfortable hiking around the campground from 6 am-10 pm, following a schedule, and maintaining order in a group. Parent chaperones must be capable of monitoring students until bedtime and must be willing to work with all children as an active participant in the student learning experience.

Homerooms: Butler, Jones, Masse, O’Brien, Ogle, & Templeton
OVERNIGHT CHAPERONES RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
CLEARANCES: As per the volunteer requirements, any parent who would like to participate must obtain the necessary paperwork: child abuse clearance, criminal record check, volunteer form, and TB test. Please visit Mr. Warfel's website for clearance forms and information. Individuals without the required paperwork on file are strongly encouraged to start the process ASAP. How to Sign Up as a Chaperone
If you are interested in chaperoning the DEER field trip, please fill out an online application by Thursday, December 3rd at the following link: http://warfelscience.wikispaces.com/. If you have any problems accessing the link, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher prior to Thursday, December 3rd for assistance.

* Selected chaperones will be notified in late December using the email provided in the online application. A CHAPERONE meeting will be held on April 5th from 6:30-7:00 in the middle school LGI to discuss chaperone expectations.
* There will be a GENERAL informational parent meeting on April 5th from 7:00-8:00 in the middle school LGI. All are invited to attend. We will explain the itinerary the students will follow while at camp, as well as provide you with a list of the items to pack and items to leave at home.
Back to School Night for parents is Thursday, September 17th.
